When you edit a cell in Microsoft Excel 97 that contains a formula that references other cells, the color boxes surrounding the cells referenced by the formula may disappear if you use the IntelliMouse wheel to scroll through the worksheet.
This behavior can occur if Universal Scrolling is enabled in Excel 97.
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:
Use the scrollbars in Excel 97 to scroll through the worksheet.
Disable Universal Scrolling in Excel 97. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Mouse.
3. On the Wheel tab, under Universal Scrolling, click Exceptions.
4. Click Add.
5. Browse to the location of the Excel 97 shortcut, click the icon,
and then click Open.
NOTE: By default, the Excel 97 shortcut is located inside the
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office folder.
6. Click Close, and then click OK.
