MNK Pro: Cannot Assign Tool in Control Panel to Hot Key

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to assign a tool in Control Panel to a Hot Key using the Microsoft IntelliType Pro Software, you receive the following error message:

Keyboard Control Panel Error

The file, folder, or URL name specified is invalid. Please check the name, or click the Browse button to search for an item.


RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, configure the Hot Key to open Control Panel, and then double-click the icon for the tool in Control Panel.

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Keyboard.


  3. On the Hot Keys tab, under Select a Hot Key, click My Computer or Calculator.


  4. Under Select a Program, click Custom, and then click Select.


  5. In the Start box, type control.exe, and then click OK.


  6. Click OK.


  7. Press the Hot Key you configured to open Control Panel.


  8. Double-click the icon for the tool in Control Panel.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro version 1.0.
