16-Bit Internet Explorer Cannot Open Office 97 LinksID: Q218932

When you are running Internet Explorer 4.01 on Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 Service Pack 5 (SP5), you may not be able to open links to Microsoft Office 97 documents in Web pages. When you try to do so, you may receive the following error message:
Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site file name.
A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but
it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems
experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this
specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next 16-bit Internet Explorer 4.01 service pack
that contains this fix.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
16-bit Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 opens links to Microsoft Office 4.x documents without problems.
