SYMPTOMS

When you run Windows Explorer or start Internet Explorer, the text in the title bar may be displayed as a single letter (for example, an "M" or an "E").

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Mijenix ZipMagic 98, Documagix Papermaster 98, or eFax HotSend program and the Windows Desktop Update component are installed.

Note that the Windows Desktop Update component does not have to be installed for this behavior to occur with the Papermaster software. The "PM98" actually appears below the title bar and above the toolbar in Internet Explorer 5.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, quit the Zm32nt.exe, Pwatch.exe, or HotTray.exe process or remove the Documagix Init program from the Startup folder:

Quit the Zm32nt.exe, Pwatch.exe, or HotTray.exe Process

  1. Right-click the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.

  2. On the Processes tab, click Zm32nt.exe, and then click End Process.

  3. Click Yes.

  4. Repeat steps 2-3 for the Pwatch.exe, or HotTray.exe process.

  5. Quit Task Manager.

Remove Programs from the Startup Folder

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar.

  2. Click the Start Menu Programs tab, and then click Advanced.

  3. Double-click the Programs folder, and then double-click the Startup folder.

  4. Drag the Documagix icon from the Startup folder to the Programs folder, and then restart your computer.

MORE INFORMATION

ZipMagic 98 starts a process called Zm32nt.exe. Papermaster 98 starts a process called Pwatch.exe and starts a DocuMagix Init program in the Startup folder. The Zm32nt.exe and Pwatch.exe processes and the Documagix Init programs are incompatible with Internet Explorer 5 and the Windows Desktop Update component.

A small button in the upper-right corner of the title bar may be displayed as "Zip" or "PM98" when you start Internet Explorer.

Note that the Papermaster software affects only the Internet Explorer 5 title bar, not the Windows Explorer title bar. Papermaster places "PM98" in the upper-left corner.

This problem can also occur with IconLock, a free utility from PC Magazine, loading in the Run keys in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER hives.
