When you use Internet Explorer version 3.x to download Internet Explorer version 4.x or later and you choose the "Open it" option in the File Download dialog box, you may receive the following error message:
A Windows application is attempting to open or install the following software component:
download file name
The component has been digitally "signed" by its publisher, but the signature does not match the component. It is possible that this component has been damaged or tampered with. Do you wish to continue?
This issue can occur because Microsoft has increased Authenticode security in Internet Explorer to ensure that all digitally signed self-extracting executable files are fully protected.
To resolve this issue, install Microsoft Authenticode 2.0 for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 from the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/authentall2.htmTo work around this issue, click Yes to continue installing Internet Explorer.
