Cross Frame Security Patch Denies Access to Office Documents

SYMPTOMS

In a frame set that holding a Microsoft Office document in one of the frames, you may receive an "access denied" error message when you are trying to read the HREF object of that frame, even though the document is in the same domain as all other content.


CAUSE

This is a side effect of the Cross Frame security implementation.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 5 service pack that contains this fix.
