Customize This Folder Command Enables View As Web Page Feature

ID: Q183905

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you click Customize This Folder on the View menu in Windows Explorer, Windows NT Explorer, or My Computer, click Create Or Edit An HTML Document, click Next, quit the HTML editor containing the Folder.htt file for the folder you are customizing, and then click Finish, the View As Web Page command on the View menu may be selected and other folders may show Web content.

CAUSE

If you are using Windows Explorer or Windows NT Explorer, this behavior is by design. The view settings that can be adjusted using the View menu or a folder's context menu in Windows Explorer or Windows NT Explorer apply to all folders accessed using that instance of Windows Explorer or Windows NT Explorer.

If you are using My Computer, this behavior is by design provided you have enabled the "Open each folder in the same window" option and disabled the "Remember each folder's view settings" option. In this case, all folders use the same view settings as the first window opened.

RESOLUTION

If you only want to view specific folders, and not others, as a Web page, use My Computer instead of Windows Explorer or Windows NT Explorer, and make sure either the "Open each folder in its own window" or "Remember each folder's view settings" option is enabled.
