Description of the Internet Explorer 5 "Download Only" FeatureID: Q221988
|
You can either install or download Internet Explorer 5. This article describes the Download Only feature for Internet Explorer 5.
You can use the Download Only option to download all the files necessary to install Internet Explorer 5 on any computer running the appropriate operating system. For example, if you choose to download a Minimal installation for Microsoft Windows 95, you can use the resulting downloaded files to install Internet Explorer 5 on any computer using the specified operating system without having to connect to the Internet to download additional files. You can download Internet Explorer 5 files for Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows NT on Intel x86 platforms.
If you want to download files to install on other computers, make sure to use the Download Only option so that all the necessary files are downloaded. If you do not use the Download Only option, Active Setup downloads only the files necessary for your computer. If you then attempt to install Internet Explorer 5 on a different computer, you may be prompted to connect to the Internet to download additional files.
Because the Download Only option downloads all the necessary files for the selected operating system, the download size is larger than if you do not select the Download Only option.
If you want to use a "flat" folder to install Internet Explorer 5 but you do not want to download all the files, you can use either the Internet Explorer 5 CD-ROM or the Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) CD-ROM.
