SUMMARY
This article describes how to configure a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer so the Internet Connection Wizard (ICW) does not run when users log on to the computer for the first time.
MORE INFORMATION
To configure a Windows NT 4.0-based computer so the ICW does not run when users log on to the computer for the first time:
- Install Internet Explorer.
NOTE: To install Internet Explorer on a Windows NT 4.0-based computer, you must have administrative privileges on that computer.
- Using a text editor (such as Notepad), open the Ie4uinit.inf file in the %systemroot%\system32 folder, where %systemroot% is the folder where Windows NT 4.0 is installed.
- Add the following line to the [AddReg.InetSettings] section of the Ie4uinit.inf file:
HKCU,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard","Completed",1,01,00,00,00
NOTE: This line must be typed as a single line.
- Save and then close the Ie4uinit.inf file.
NOTE: This entry only works the first time a new user logs on to a Windows NT 4.0-based computer. Changing the Ie4uinit.inf file affects all users (administrative and non-administrative) who log on to the computer. The Ie4uinit.inf file is installed by Internet Explorer.
