SYMPTOMS

When you are adding sites to the Local Intranet zone, you may receive the following error message:

You have entered an invalid wildcard sequence.
Examples of valid patterns:
*://*.mysite.com
http://*.mysite.co.jp
ftp://157.54.23.41/
file:\\\\localsvr\\share
*://157.54.100-200.*
Examples of invalid patterns:

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 4.01 service pack that contains this fix.
