When you attempt to start Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:
   A required .dll file is missing
   Msvcirt.dll
This behavior can occur if an incompatible version of the Msvcrt40.dll file exists on your computer.
To resolve this issue, rename the Msvcrt40.dll file located in the Windows\System folder, and then extract a new copy of the Msvcrt40.dll file from the Ie4mfc40.cab file located on your computer or your Internet Explorer CD-ROM to the Windows\System folder.
For information on how to locate a file on your computer, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type "finding" (without quotation marks), and then double-click the "Files or folders" topic.

NOTE: You may be required to restart the computer to an MS-DOS prompt to rename the Msvcrt40.dll file if the file is in use by Windows. To do so, use the following steps:
1. Restart your computer. When you see the "Starting Windows 95" message,
   press the F8 key, and then choose Safe Mode Command Prompt Only from
   the Startup menu.
   after each line:
      cd\windows\system
      ren msvcrt40.dll msvcrt40.old
4. Extract a new copy of the Msvcrt40.dll file from the Ie4mfc40.cab file
   located on your computer or your Internet Explorer CD-ROM to the
   Windows\System folder.
