Error Message: Thank You For Your Interest in Windows Update...ID: Q234272
|
When you attempt to connect to the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, you may receive the following error message:
Thank You for your interest in Windows Update. You have an older version of Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools. If you would like to download additional components from the Windows Update catalog, you must first upgrade to the latest version.
This behavior can occur if the registry contains incorrectly formatted version information for Internet Explorer 5.0.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and
Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete
Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in
Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.
If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency
Repair Disk (ERD).
To resolve this issue, use Registry Editor to change any periods in the Internet Explorer version number to commas in the value data of the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}\Version\
