IEAK Installation Incomplete for Custom Desktop UsersID: Q234715
|
When you restart your computer for the first time after you install Microsoft Internet ExplorerAdministration Kit 4.01 (IEAK), Internet Explorer does not complete the installation for custom desktop users unless you log on with Administrator permissions.
This issue occurs because user settings are set using the Ie4uinit.inf file. During this portion of the installation process, a temporary folder is created in the customized Desktop folder of the user. However, if this Desktop folder is Read-only (which is common in customized folders), the temporary folder cannot be created and the processing of this .inf file is aborted. If the .inf file is not processed, the registry is not properly updated.
A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but
it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems
experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this
specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 4.01 service pack
that contains this fix.
