Internet Explorer Does Not Automatically Connect to the Internet

SYMPTOMS

After you install Internet Explorer, you may no longer be able to automatically connect to the Internet.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your Home page in Internet Explorer loads from the Temporary Internet Files folder.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use any of the following methods:

Configure Internet Explorer to Use a Different Home Page

1. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.



2. In the Address box, type the Web address of a Web page that is not cached in the Temporary Internet Files folder.



3. Click OK.

Empty Your Temporary Internet Files Folder Before You Start Internet Explorer

1. If you are running Internet Explorer, click Close on the File menu.



2. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon, and then click Properties.



3. Click Delete Files, click OK, and then click OK.

Empty Your Temporary Internet Files Folder When You Quit Internet Explorer

1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon, and then click Properties.



2. On the Advanced tab, click the Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed check box, and then click OK.

Web pages can be designed to cache their content locally to improve the loading time for the Web page. When you load a Web page from the cache, Internet Explorer does not need to connect to the Internet.

However, if you click a link on the Web page or load a different Web page that is not cached, Internet Explorer automatically connects to the Internet to load the Web page.
