Partial Web Page Is Rendered When HTTP Stream Terminates Early

SYMPTOMS

There is a problem receiving a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) stream from sites with Internet Explorer 5 when a delay occurs during a query. In most cases, the page is only partially rendered. Viewing the source code for the page reveals a partially formed HTML stream such as:

Refreshing the page may result in a fully-formed page, although subsequent refreshes may generate the same problem, cutting the HTML stream at different locations.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and install the appropriate file for your language and platform from the Microsoft Software Library. NOTE: This QFE replaces the Wininet.dll file using version 5.00.2614.3400, so you can apply it to Internet Explorer 5.0 versions 5.00.2014.0216 and 5.00.2314.1003, but not version 5.00.2614.3500 that is included with Windows 98 Second Edition. If the Wininet.dll file has a version number later than 5.00.2614.3400, then you do not need to apply this QFE.
