Problems Printing Italic Characters on PCL Printers

ID: Q195926

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you print a Web page with a table whose cells contain italic characters to a Printer Control Language (PCL) printer, some characters may be truncated

CAUSE

Some characters (particularly accented characters) may have an overhang adjustment that is larger than the width of the character. When this occurs, an unnecessary break occurs in the printed text because the width is incorrectly calculated as a very large number. For example, the overhang adjustment for "width=30" could be 50, which results in a fill width of -20 (which is supposed to be unsigned). So, instead of -20, the result is a large positive number, which affects almost everything around it.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain and install Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2. You can obtain Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 from the following Microsoft Web site:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed above.
