SYMPTOMS

If you use the right mouse button to drag items to different locations in the Start menu, you may experience unexpected results. For example, when you drop an object anywhere in the Start menu, a context menu may be opened for the item closest to that location. Afterwards, you may be unable to open or close cascading menus on the Start menu, or to close the Start menu itself.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, close and reopen the Start menu by following these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Run dialog box, click Cancel.

3. Click Start to open the Start menu again. Use the left mouse button

(instead of the right mouse button) to reorder Start menu items.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Windows 98
