CAB Files Not Downloaded Due to Incorrect URL in INS File

SYMPTOMS

In Profile Manager, the correct URL for the .cab files has been entered in the "URL Path of CAB Files:" list box; however, the .cab files are not downloaded to your local computer.

CAUSE

The Profile Manager does not save the URL entered in the "URL Path of CAB Files:" list box to the .ins file.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, perform the following steps:

1. Open the .ins file in a text editor (such as Notepad).

2. In the [Custom Branding] section, edit the URL for each .cab file

   listed. Save and close the file.

3. Open the .ins file in Profile Manager and then save it again. This
   increments the version number in the .ins file.

NOTE: If the version number of the .ins file is not incremented, it will not be downloaded to existing Internet Explorer systems. Therefore, users will not receive the corrected URL for the .cab file(s).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Internet Explorer Administration Kit versions 4.0, 4.01, 4.01a, and 4.01a Service Pack 1.
