When you attempt to start the Web Publishing service in Personal Web Manager, you may experience one of the following symptoms:
To resolve this behavior, remove Personal Web Server and its related files, and then reinstall it. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Remove Personal Web Server. To do so, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
b. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Windows NT Option Pack, and
then click Add/Remove.
c. Click Next, click Add/Remove, and then click the Personal Web Server
(PWS) check box to clear it.
d. Restart your computer.
2. Remove the Peer Web Server component in Network properties, if
necessary. To do so, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
b. In Control Panel, double-click Network.
c. Click Peer Web Server, if it is present, and then click Remove.
If Peer Web Server is not present, skip to step D.
d. Click OK, and then restart your computer.
3. Remove files that remain after you uninstall Personal Web Server. To
do so, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
b. In the Look In box, click Local Hard Drives, type the following line
in the Named box, and then click Find Now:
pws*.*
c. Rename each of the found files listed in the Find window with an
.old extension. For information about how to rename files, click
Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type "rename" (without
quotations marks), and then double-click the "Renaming files" topic
to display it.
d. Restart your computer.
4. Reinstall Personal Web Server. To do so, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
b. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Windows NT Option Pack, and
then click Add/Remove.
c. Click Next, click Add/Remove, and then click the Personal Web Server
(PWS) check box to select it.
d. Click Next, and then locate the folder containing the Windows NT
Option Pack source files, if necessary.
e. Restart you computer.
