BUG: WFC HTML Control is Not Supported on HTML Pages

SYMPTOMS

When trying to add a WFC HTML Control from the WFC toolbox to your HTML page, you will receive an Unhandled Exception Error dialog box in the HTML designer with the following exception: 

   com.ms.wfc.core.WFCException: ActiveX control's top level parent has to
   be derived from class Form.
This dialog box has Continue, Quit, and Details buttons. Clicking Quit will exit you from Visual J++ 6.0 immediately (losing unsaved work), possibly with an unhandled exception. Clicking Continue may allow you to continue, though you may experience painting problems and system instability leading to an eventual VJ++ 6.0 crash.

RESOLUTION

The WFC HTML control is not supported on HTML pages at this time. It is designed for WFC Windows applications only. The "Microsoft Web Browser" ActiveX control can be used instead. To add the Web browser control to the HTML Toolbox, right-click the toolbox and select "Customize Toolbox" from the shortcut menu. When the Customize Toolbox dialog box appears, select the "ActiveX Controls" tab and scroll through the selections until you find the "Microsoft Web Browser" (Shdocvw.dll). Select the check box and click OK to add this control to the toolbox. The Explorer control can then be added to your HTML pages.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
