The information about this error message when installing the Microsoft Office Manager are not found in the PowerPoint Readme Help files for PowerPoint versions 4.0 or 4.0a. The file was updated in version 4.0c to include this information. The information applies to all versions of Powerpoint 4.0.
Microsoft Office Manager
While installing the Microsoft Office Manager available in Microsoft Office, you may receive the following error message:
Could not write to the file named:
<office path>\MSOFFICE.EXE'.
This file is currently being used by another
application. Please shut down your other
applications.
This happens if the Microsoft Office Manager is currently running. This
is usually indicated by a number of toolbar buttons that appear at the
top of your screen. Exit the Microsoft Office Manager and then run setup
again. You can exit by choosing the "Microsoft Office" tool on the
Microsoft Office Manager toolbar.
