On your computer running Windows 3.1 and LAN Manager, when you log on to a domain that is different from the domain specified in the LANMAN.INI file, you see the following error when you try to add a user and subsequently enter your administrator password in Server Manager:
Cannot set the startup parameters for the Directory
Replicator service. Error 1057 occurred: The account
name is invalid or does not exist.
If your client cannot locate the primary domain controller (PDC) of the
domain specified in the LANMAN.INI file, the following error appears in
Server Manager:
Cannot adjust the logon rights and group membership of account
<account name>. The startup parameters for the Directory Replicator
service may be in an inconsistent state. Error 0087 occurred:
the parameter is incorrect.
These symptoms occur sporadically.
NOTE: You can obtain the Server Manager program from the Windows NT 3.51 Server compact disc in the \CLIENTS\SRVTOOLS\WINDOWS directory.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in LAN Manager 2.2c or the Server Manager program. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
