Microsoft has made an update available to the Microsoft Outlook Express File Attachment patch for Windows operating systems, originally posted on July 27, 1998. This updated patch addresses variations of a problem involving file attachments with extremely long names. The update can be obtained from the following location:

This issue can cause a crash or other unexpected behavior when attempting to open a file attachment with an extremely long file name. For example, one of the following may occur on Windows 95, Windows 98, and NT 4.0 x86 systems:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at
0000:40404040.
It is difficult but possible for an individual to cause malicious code to be executed on your computer as a result of this problem. There have not been any reports of customers being affected by this problem.
