This article describes the changes to code page 1252 used in Windows 98 and Windows 2000.

The new code page 1252 is a modified version of the original code page 1252 used in Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

In the original code page 1252, three code points are marked as "not used." In the new code page 1252, these points are assigned to the following Unicode characters:

ANSI Unicode Description
0x80 U+20ac Euro sign
0x8e U+017d Latin uppercase letter Z with caron
0x9e U+017e Latin lowercase letter Z with caron


Code page 1252 is used for all Western European languages.
