SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000, you may not be able to print.

During the upgrade process, you may receive notification that the following files will not be upgraded:

Rasdd.dll
Rasddui.dll

CAUSE

Windows 2000 examines file dates to determine if files can be replaced by upgraded versions included with Windows 2000. In some cases (primarily when the Rasdd.dll and Rasddui.dll files have been replaced during the installation of third-party printer drivers) Windows 2000 does not upgrade the files.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this problem from occurring, install Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 (SP5) before you upgrade to Windows 2000.

To resolve the issue after you upgrade, replace the Rasdd.dll and Rasddui.dll files on the hard disk with the versions from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM. To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT 4.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 5.
