WD5X: Works and DCA-RTF Converters Not Installed in Word 5.0

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.1

SYMPTOMS

The Easy Installation of Microsoft Word for the Macintosh version 5.0, does not include the following two converters:

   Works for Macintosh 2.x
   RFT-DCA Converter

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. The combined size of these files (uncompressed) is over 250 kilobytes (KB). These formats are not as popular as the ones installed by default with an Easy Installation.

WORKAROUND

To install one or both of these converters, follow these steps:

1. Insert the Install disk into your Macintosh and start the

   Installer.

2. Click Customize.

3. Scroll to the Converters section. Select the item(s) you want to

   install.

4. Click Install and follow the directions for installation.

NOTE: When selecting a destination folder for the converter, select the Word Commands folder. This ensures that this converter is correctly placed with the other converters.

After you finish this procedure, the converters are available for use in Word version 5.0.
