PRJ98: Error Saving a Project to SQL Database

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, if you save to a SQL (Structured Query Language) database, you may receive the following error message:

There is an ODBC error accessing the database.
The following error was returned by the ODBC driver:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid column name
'DURATIONVARIANCE'.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the sort order for the SQL server is anything other than case insensitive.


RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

To temporarily resolve this problem in Project 98 non-SR-1, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain the updated Pj8od8.dll file as described in the "Instructions for Downloading" section of this article.


  2. Copy Pj8od8.dll to the same directory where the Winproj.exe file is located.


NOTE: The default location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office.
When prompted to overwrite the existing file named Pj8od8.dll, click Yes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
