PRJ98: Crash or Memory Error When Opening a Consolidated ProjectID: q189231

In Microsoft Project 98, when you open a consolidated project you may receive a message indicating that your computer has run out of memory.
-or-Microsoft Project stops responding and you receive the either of the following error messages.
When you click Details, you receive the following error message:This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the Problem persists, contact the program vendor.
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module WINPROJ.EXE at <address>.
An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

This problem may occur when you open a consolidated project and the Calculation option is set to Manual.
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service
Release 1 (SR-1).
To temporarily work around this behavior if you do not have SR-1, change
the Calculation option to Automatic. To do this, follow these steps:
