In Microsoft Project 98 or Microsoft Project 98 Service Release 1 (SR-1), when you insert one or more projects into another project, you may receive the following error message:
In addition, if you are running Microsoft Project 98 (not Microsoft Project 98 SR-1), you may receive the following error message:Microsoft Project
Error writing updated settings to registry ().
When you click Details, you receive the following message:This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module MSO97.DLL at <address>.
These error messages may occur when all of the following conditions are
true:

To work around this problem, under the conditions described in the "Cause"
section, do not clear the Hide Subtasks check box in the Insert Project dialog box when you insert multiple projects.
NOTE: After you have inserted all projects with subtasks hidden, you can safely expand them either one at a time or all at once.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
