ID: Q197848
The information in this article applies to:
A client extension developed for the Microsoft Exchange client may not respond to events in the Microsoft Outlook client.
The DoCommands event is not fired in all of the same places in Microsoft Outlook that it is in the Microsoft Exchange client.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This bug has been corrected in Microsoft Outlook version 8.03 and Outlook 98.
Both the Microsoft Exchange client and Microsoft Outlook implement a method for developers to customize the user interface and behavior of the respective clients. This method of customization is known as extensions. Outlook based its implementation on the Exchange client implementation. However, the Outlook client does not call the DoCommands method of a client extension in all of the same places that Exchange did. The biggest indication of this is when customized features work differently or not at all in Outlook but still work as expected in Exchange.
