For security purposes, you may want to change the port that NetShow uses for HTTP streaming. This change cannot be made via the NetShow Administrator; it must be accomplished by making changes to the Windows NT Server registry.

The following procedure outlines how to change the port that NetShow uses for HTTP streaming.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

  1. Click the Start button and choose Run. In the Run dialog box, type "regedt32" (without the quotation marks) and click OK. This will open the Windows NT Server Registry Editor.


  2. Locate the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nsunicast\Parameters


  3. Within the key listed above, locate and double-click on the value named HTTPport. This opens the DWORD editor.


  4. Specify the port number in hex that you want NetShow to use for HTTP streaming, and click OK.


  5. Restart your Windows NT Server computer.
