How to Force NetShow 2.0 Clients to Upgrade to 3.0ID: Q187502
|
There are several features offered by Microsoft Windows NT Server NetShow 3.0 Services that will not be available to users that are running the NetShow 2.0 client. The steps below offer a method to force NetShow 2.0 users to upgrade to NetShow 3.0 Services.
From the NetShow Services release notes:
You can forcibly upgrade NetShow clients from version 2.0 to version
3.0. To do this, change the name of the .asf file, upgrade.asf, located
in the ASF content root (by default, C:\asfroot), to fupgrade.asf.
Leave fupgrade.asf in the Home directory (or ASF content root). After
you rename this file, whenever any Microsoft NetShow Player version 2.0
connects to any publishing point, instead of streaming the requested
stream, NetShow Server streams fupgrade.asf to that client. This .asf
file explains to users that they can upgrade their client, and should.
The .asf file also contains a script command that opens users'
browsers, and goes to a Microsoft Web site where they can download the
version 3.0 client.
