SYMPTOMS

In the Windows Media Encoder Create a New Configuration wizard, if you move past the step in the wizard for choosing Audio only without selecting it, and then go back to a previous screen to select Audio only, the Encoder Properties dialog displays incorrect options.

The bandwidth settings in the Encoder Properties dialog show check boxes for multiple bandwidths. Audio only streams do not support multiple bandwidths. Changing any of the settings in the properties dialog results in the following error message:

The bandwidth you selected is too small for the audio/video codec you specified or/and video input. Please reselect the bandwidth in the "Bandwidth" page, or re-specify the audio/video codec in the "Compression" page, or uncheck the video input in the "Input" page if it is selected.

WORKAROUND

When you use the Create a New Configuration wizard for audio only content, choose the Audio Only (required for real-time transmission) check box before proceeding to the next screen.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Services version 4.0.
