NetShow Administrator Crashes When Administering From Windows 95/98

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to administer Microsoft Windows NT Server NetShow Services on a computer running Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 98, Internet Explorer may stop responding if ALL of the following conditions are true:


WORKAROUND

This problem only occurs when the user that is logged in does not have administrator privileges for the NetShow Services. If the user has been granted the proper administrator privileges, this problem can be avoided.

NOTE: It may also be possible to prevent this problem from occurring by performing the following steps; however, you will still need to give the login you are using sufficient administrator privileges on the Windows NT Server that is running NetShow Services.

Perform the following steps on the Windows 95/98 computer.

  1. In Control Panel, double-click the Network icon.


  2. In the "The following network components are installed" list, highlight the Client for Microsoft Networks, and then click the Properties button.


  3. In the Client for Microsoft Network Properties dialog box, make sure that the Windows NT Domain field is either blank or set equal to the name of a computer that is present on your network.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT Server NetShow 3.0 Services.
