Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.
This article lists the changes to Microsoft Access 97 in both Microsoft
Access 97 Service Release 1 and Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 1, and
it describes how you can receive the update.
NOTE: Stand-alone Microsoft Access 97 Service Release 1 is not currently
available, but you can update your copy of Microsoft Access 97 to Service
Release 1 by downloading Microsoft Office Service Release 1 at the Web
address given in the "More Information" section. We will update this
article when Stand-alone Microsoft Access 97 Service Release 1 becomes
available.
MORE INFORMATION
How to Obtain Service Release 1
If you already have Microsoft Access 97, or Microsoft Office 97
Professional Edition, you can download Service Release 1 from Microsoft's
Web site at:
http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/Articles/sr1fact.htm
Microsoft Access 97 Service Release 1 contains updated files as well as the
new Snapshot feature.
Snapshot and Snapshot Viewer
Microsoft Snapshot enables you to view a report without having Microsoft
Access 97 or the run-time version of Microsoft Access 97 on your computer.
You see the report as it would appear in print preview in Microsoft Access.
Microsoft Snapshot allows you to save a static picture of a Microsoft
Access 97 report in an external file format (*.snp). You can then make the
report available to someone who does not have Microsoft Access 97. For
example, you can send the report in e-mail or copy it to a person's hard
drive. The person needs only the Microsoft Access Snapshot Viewer to be
able to view the report.
Microsoft Access 97 Snapshot Viewer, Snapview.exe, enables you to view a
Microsoft Access report that has been saved as a snapshot (*.snp). You can
distribute the self-extracting file that installs Snapshot Viewer to anyone
who has Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT. The Snapshot Viewer
enables you to view reports that have been exported to the new snapshot
file format, which is available in Service Release 1.
If you obtained Microsoft Access 97 Service Release 1 on CD-ROM, Snapshot
Viewer is located in the \ValuPack\Access subfolder on the CD-ROM.
Snpvw80.exe is a self-extracting file that installs the Snapshot Viewer.
Double-click the \ValuPack\Valupk8.hlp file on your CD-ROM for information
about installing ValuPack features, including the Snapshot Viewer.
If you downloaded Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 1 from Microsoft's
World Wide Web site, you automatically have the ability to export reports
to snapshot file format. Snapshot Viewer, however, is a separate download.
Search Microsoft's Web site for Snpvw80.exe, or go to Microsoft Office
FreeStuff or Microsoft Office Developer's Forum.
