The information in this article applies to:
Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.
This article applies only to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).
SUMMARY
You cannot install the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) through the Office 2000 Setup program. Microsoft provides a separate Setup program to install MSDE.
MORE INFORMATION
To install MSDE, follow these steps:
- Insert Office 2000 CD number 1.
- Open Windows Explorer and browse to the following folder:
\SQL\x86\SETUP
- Double-click SETUPSQL.EXE.
The Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) is a new technology that provides local data storage that is compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. Because MSDE shares the same data engine as SQL Server, most Microsoft Access projects or client/server applications run on either version unchanged.
NOTE: Unlike SQL Server 7.0, MSDE has a 2 gigabyte database size limit, doesn't support Symmetrical Multiprocessing (SMP) on Windows 95 or later, and when using Transactional replication, can't be a replication publisher (although it can act as a replication subscriber).
