XL98: Type 2 Error Adding User-Defined Chart Type

SYMPTOMS
When you click OK in the Add Custom Chart Type dialog box, the program may
disappear or you may receive the following error message:
The application "Microsoft Excel" has unexpectedly quit, because an
error of type 2 occurred.
You should save your work in other open applications and restart the
computer.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- You attempt to create a user-defined chart type.
-and-
- The chart that you are using to create the user-defined chart type is
located on a worksheet.
-and-
- You are running Macintosh System Software version 8.5.
WORKAROUND
To work around the problem, follow these steps:
- Click the chart that you want to use.
- On the Chart menu, click Location. Click As New Sheet, and then click
OK.
Excel moves the chart to a chart sheet.
- On the Chart menu, click Chart Type. Click the Custom Types tab.
- Under Select From, click User-defined. Click Add.
- In the Add Custom Chart Type dialog box, type the name for your
user-defined chart type in the Name box. Click OK.
- Click OK to close the Chart Type dialog box.
Excel saves the user-defined chart type.
- On the Chart menu, click Location. Click As Object In.
- In the As Object In list, click the worksheet that you want to move the
chart to, and then click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 98
Macintosh Edition.
