XL97: LOOKUP Returns Incorrect Value When Source File Is Closed

SYMPTOMS

When you recalculate your worksheet, a formula that uses the LOOKUP() function may return an incorrect value.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

• You are using Syntax 1 (vector form) of the LOOKUP() function.

      -and-
  

• The values that you are using for the Lookup_vector and Result_vector arguments are contained in a separate workbook.

      -and-
  

• You are using defined names to refer to your data in the Lookup_vector and Result_vector arguments.

      -and-
  

• The workbook that contains the values for the Lookup_vector and Result_vector arguments is closed.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, obtain Microsoft Excel 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
