In Microsoft Excel, manual page breaks in a worksheet automatically shift position when you insert or delete rows or columns. However, when you open a file that was saved in the "Microsoft Excel Workbook 5.0/95 (*.xls)" file format in Microsoft Excel 97, Microsoft Excel does not automatically shift manual horizontal page breaks when you delete or insert rows.
NOTE: This behavior persists if the workbook is subsequently saved as a Microsoft Excel 97 workbook.
The problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
-and-
-and-
-and-
To correct this problem, remove and reinsert manual page breaks in the affected document. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Select the cell location of the manual page break.
NOTE: If you do not see the manual page breaks, click Page Setup on the
File menu and click OK.
2. On the Insert menu, click Remove Page Break.
3. With the same cell location of the manual page break selected, click
Page Break on the Insert menu.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for every manual page break on the workbook.
The new manual page break moves as the rows are inserted or deleted above it.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
A manual page break in an Excel 5.0/95 workbook remain on the same row when rows are inserted or deleted in Microsoft Excel 97. Columns shift as in earlier versions of Excel when you insert or delete columns.
For more information about page breaks, click the Index tab in Microsoft Excel Help, type the following text
