SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Office for Windows, version 4.3-CD with
Microsoft Bookshelf 1994 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows
98, the Microsoft Word shortcut is missing from the appropriate Start menu
folder.
Note that Microsoft Word is installed and can be executed from the
Microsoft Office Manager or from the installation folder; only the shortcut
is missing.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, manually add the Microsoft Word shortcut to the
appropriate folder of the Start menu. To add the Microsoft Word shortcut,
follow these steps:
- On the Start menu, point to Settings and click Taskbar & Start Menu.
- Click the Start Menu Programs tab and click Add.
- In the Create Shortcut dialog box, click Browse.
- In the Browse dialog box, locate the Winword.exe file. By default,
it is located in the Msoffice\Winword folder of the hard disk on which
you installed Microsoft Office.
- Click the Winword.exe file that you found in step 4, and then click
Open.
- In the Create Shortcut dialog box, click Next.
- In the Select Program Folder dialog box, click the folder in which the
Microsoft Office shortcuts are located, and then click Next. By
default, this folder is the Microsoft Office folder in the Programs
folder.
- In the "Select a name for the shortcut" box, type "Microsoft Word"
(without the quotation marks) and click Finish.
- In the Taskbar Properties dialog box, click OK.
The next time you restart your computer, the Microsoft Word shortcut
