The original version of the Office 2000 Resource Kit (ORK) contained a section in Readme.doc titled "Office content added with transforms -- Office 2000 user configuration settings retained after uninstall." Most of the content that you can add to an Office installation by using the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) is regarded as permanent. It is not uninstalled if Office is removed, and it is not reinstalled if Office is reinstalled. This prevents accidentally overwriting content users may have customized if Office is reinstalled.

If necessary, you can force the removal, or reinstallation, of this added content (with one exception). The controlling registry values are contained in the following key.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OfficeCustomizeWizard\1.0\RegKeyPaths\<GUID>]
The appropriate <GUID> entry is found by using the following procedure:
  1. From the Windows Explorer, locate the Installer folder which contains the cached transform you applied during Setup. Depending on the type of install performed, this will be either the Installer subfolder of the Windows <windir> folder, or the "Application Data\Microsoft\Installer folder. Note that the Windows\Installer subfolder is a hidden folder.

    The correct folder contains one or more cached .mst files. If Office has been uninstalled you will need to locate the original copy of the transform that was applied during the previous install. This will usually be in the root folder of the Office 2000 installation point on the server.


  2. Right-click the appropriate .mst file and click Properties.


  3. Click the Statistics tab. In the Revision Number box is the GUID for Office. You can copy the string and paste it in a text file if you need to. The key will contain one or both of the following values:
    OCWAddedContentWritten
    OCWUserDataWritten
    OCWAddedContentWritten - controls added files, Registry Keys, Shortcuts, and added Installations or Programs in the transform.

    OCWUserDataWritten - controls any content added from an OPS (Office Profile Settings) file.

    You can force a reinstall of any missing files or Registry entries, plus added Installations or Programs, by deleting the appropriate Value Name after removing Office, prior to the reinstall. (Remaining added content Registry entries may be overwritten by the reinstall as well.)
