OFF2000: Content Added with a Transform Is Not Added in a Reinstall or Second Install

SYMPTOMS

When you reinstall Office, either in Maintenance mode or after completely removing Office, modifications that you made with a Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) transform are not utilized. None of the files, registry keys, added installations, or programs that you included in the transform are reinstalled or run again. For example, if you add a file called Test.txt to your transform and you run Office Setup for the first time, Test.txt will be installed to the specified folder. However, if you manually delete Test.txt and then choose Reinstall in Maintenance mode Setup, Test.txt will not be reinstalled. If you removed Office, Test.txt is not removed. If you then ran Setup using the same transform, Test.txt would not be installed on this second installation of Office even if you manually delete it before running Office Setup.


CAUSE

Any files, registry keys, shortcuts, or added installations and programs are considered user data. Therefore to protect any changes that may have been made to these items, the changes will not be lost during a reinstallation of Office.


RESOLUTION

To Determine the Product Code

To find the Product Code for the Office product you installed, follow these steps:
  1. Locate and select the transform you used with Office Setup.


  2. Right-click the transform and click Properties on the shortcut menu.


  3. Click the Statistics tab in Properties.


  4. Look at the first 36 characters, including the dashes (-), between the braces {} listed next to Revision Number.


WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To Modify the Registry

To force the reinstallation of files, registry keys, shortcuts, and added installations and programs that have been added to a transform, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and click Run.


  2. Type regedit and navigate to the following key:


  3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OfficeCustomizedWizard\1.0\RegKeyPaths
  4. Select the subkey below RegKeyPath that matches the Product Code (a GUID) for the Office product you installed. To determine the Product Code, see the "To Determine the Product Code" section.


  5. Delete the value, OCWAddedContentWritten.


  6. On the File menu, click Close.


If Office Is Installed

You must reinstall Office; to reinstall Office, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.


  2. In Add/Remove Programs, double-click the Office 2000 product you installed.


  3. Click Repair Office.


  4. Click Reinstall Office, and then click Finish.


If Office is not currently installed, run Office Setup using the transform you created.
