SUMMARY

In earlier versions of Office, if you wanted to change the company name displayed in the Office splash screens and About <program name> on the Help menu (where <program name> is the program you were using), you uninstalled Office, ran setup again, and entered a new company name. In Office 2000, to change the name of the company, you modify the Windows registry.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. To change the company name displayed in the Office programs, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and click Run.

  2. In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.

  3. Locate and select the following key:

  4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<GUID>
where <GUID> is the Product Code for the version of Office installed. For example, {00000409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}.

You may have more than one GUID listed under the Uninstall subkey. If you have more than one, select each GUID until you find the one that has the correct product name listed for the DisplayName value. For example, "Microsoft Office 2000 Premium."

  5. Double-click RegCompany in the Name column.

  6. Change the text in the Value data box and click OK.

  7. Locate and select the following key:

  8. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\UserInfo
  9. On the Edit menu, click Rename.

  10. Type OldUserInfo, and press ENTER.

  11. On the Registry menu click Exit.

When you start an Office program, the company name displayed will reflect the change you made in step 5.
