OFF2000: Hyperlinks Do Not Use Browser-Defined Colors

SYMPTOMS

In Office, hyperlink colors do not match the colors that you define for a hyperlink or a followed hyperlink in the default Internet browser on your computer.


CAUSE

Office programs use their own color scheme for hyperlinks. This color scheme may differ from the hyperlink color scheme that you define for the default Internet browser on your computer. In Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, the default color for a hyperlink is blue and the followed hyperlink color is violet. In Microsoft PowerPoint, the default color for a hyperlink is ice blue and the followed hyperlink color is light gray.

NOTE: You can create a different hyperlink color scheme for each Office program.


WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, set the hyperlink and/or followed hyperlink color scheme in each of the Office programs.

Set the Color Scheme In Excel

  1. On the Format menu, click Style.


  2. In the Style Name list, click either Hyperlink or Followed Hyperlink.

    NOTE: To access these options, you must insert a hyperlink or a followed hyperlink in the workbook.


  3. Click Modify, and then click the Font tab.


  4. Select a color in the Color list.


Set the Color Scheme In Word

  1. On the Format menu, click Style.


  2. In the Style dialog box, click to select All Styles from the List list. In the Styles list, click either Hyperlink or Followed Hyperlink.

    NOTE: To access these options, you must insert a hyperlink or a followed hyperlink in the document.


  3. Click Modify, click Format, and then click Font.


  4. Click to select a color in the Font Color list.


Set the Color Scheme In PowerPoint

  1. On the Format menu, click Slide Color Scheme.


  2. Click the Custom tab and click either the color for Accent and Hyperlink or Accent and Followed Hyperlink, and then click Change Color.
