OFF2000: Internet Explorer 5 Setup Fails without Warning

SYMPTOMS

When you install Office 2000, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 is either not installed completely or is not installed at all. You do not receive a message indicating that Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 is not installed correctly in either situation.


CAUSE

There was an error during the silent installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 while you were installing Microsoft Office 2000. For example, you may have less than 5 megabytes of disk space on the hard drive, where your operating system is located, or because of a general setup error. None of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 is installed if there is insufficient disk space on the hard disk drive, where your operating system is located. Some components of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 may be installed in other situations.


RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, run Internet Explorer 5 setup by performing these steps:

  1. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.


  2. In the Open box, click Browse. Insert the first Office 2000 compact disc in your CD-ROM drive. Open the \Ie5\en\ folder and double-click Ie5setup.exe.


  3. Follow the instructions on your screen to complete setup.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
