OFF2000: How to Make the Browse Button Unavailable When the Installer Can't Find the Source Files

If the Windows Installer needs to copy information from your Office source location, and that source is not available, it will display a dialog box with the following text:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative path in the box below.
In this dialog box, there is a Browse button that will allow you to browse your network for another location that contains Office source files.

To make the Browse button unavailable, apply the Disable browse dialog box for new source system policy that is available in the Office 2000 Policy template Instlr1.adm. For more information about the Office System Policy templates, see the Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit at:

If you apply the Disable browse dialog box for new source system policy, you will also not be able to manually enter a path in the Use feature from list. However, you will be able to select the <Office 2000 Product> item in the Use feature from list (where <Office 2000 product> is the name of the specific Office product being used). If you select the <Office 2000 Product> item and your <Office 2000 Product> CD is in the CD-ROM drive, the Windows Installer will successfully locate the information it needs on the CD when you click OK. When you apply the Disable browse dialog box for new source system policy, the DisableBrowseDWORD value under the following registry subkey is set to 1.
