OFF2000: Required Registry Information Error Running Office Program

SYMPTOMS

When you start an Office program, you may receive the following error:

Required registry information is missing and this application cannot run. Please rerun setup to correct this problem.


CAUSE

This behavior will occur when Office licensing information is either damaged or missing in the Windows registry.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Run Microsoft Office setup.


  2. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.


  3. Click Repair errors in my Office installation.


  4. Click Finish.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
