OFF2000: Text Missing or Overlapped When Saved as Web Page

ID: Q226619

SYMPTOMS

When you save your Office document as a Web page, some of the text may appear incorrectly. Some words may be missing, and some text may overlap the text on the next line.

CAUSE

This behavior can be caused by trailing spaces, or extra spaces that are used at the end of a line to force the next word in a sentence to wrap to the next line.

This behavior is a limitation of the Office 2000 OfficeArt layer. OfficeArt is a shared technology in Office 2000 that controls the relative and absolute position of HTML output on the Web page.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove the trailing spaces from the document, and save the document again as a Web page, using the following steps:

  1. Open the Web page in the original Office 2000 application it was created in. Go to the section that does not appear correctly as a Web page.

  2. Check for extra spaces on the right side of the text. Delete any extra spaces that may appear at the end of any line of text. If this throws off the word wrapping, the multiple spaces can be replaced with a hard return (press the ENTER key) to force the next word onto the next line.

  3. Click Web page preview to check your work. After you are satisfied, save the document as a Web page.

    -or-

You can save the document in Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later format.
    1. On the File menu, click Save as web page.

    2. Click Publish.

    3. Click Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later, then save the document.
