OFF2000: Transparent Vector Graphics Print Filled on PostScript Printers

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you print a document that contains either Enhanced Metafile (EMF) or Windows Metafile (WMF) graphics, with semi-transparent or fully transparent regions, to a Postscript-compatible printer, the transparent regions print filled and semi-transparent regions may print black or with a gray box covering the shape.


WORKAROUND

If possible, use a non-postscript printer driver that is compatible with the printer being used, or use a different printer that is not PostSript compatible.

If using a non-Postscript compatible printer driver is not an option, then the only recourse is to convert the EMF or WMF graphic into a raster graphic that supports transparencies, such as Portable Network Graphics (PNG), Tagged Image File Format (TIF), or CompuServe Graphics Interchange Format 89a (GIF).
