OFF97: AutoCorrect Changes URL in Web Toolbar Address BoxID: Q186011
|
If you type a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) in the Address box of the Web toolbar, some lowercase letters may be changed to uppercase, and some uppercase letters may be changed to lowercase.
The letters in the URL you type in the Address box may change case if you
previously entered the same URL in the Address box. The AutoCorrect feature
of Microsoft Office determines that you have already entered the text of
the URL and adjusts the text to match the case with the text you entered
the first time.
NOTE: This is true even if you first enter the URL in one Microsoft Office
97 for Windows program and then type it again in a different Office
program. This behavior occurs because all of the Office programs share the
same registry setting that stores these addresses.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And
Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete
Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in
Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.
If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency
Repair Disk (ERD).
If you want to change the case of the letters in a URL that is currently
listed in the Address box, you must edit the Microsoft Windows registry.
NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps
may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product
documentation to complete these steps.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
NOTE: The Status bar displays the following:
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
